  • Recycled denim or cotton fiber insulation reduces resource use and landfill use. It contains 85% post-industrial recycled natural fibers and does not contain chemicals known to be harmful and it achieves insulation values equivalent to traditional insulations.
  • Recycled content fiberglass insulation helps to reduce resource use. Look only for brands that are labeled formaldehyde-free in order to improve indoor air quality.
  • 4% of Smog in Southern California comes from paint. Nontoxic paint and finishes reduce pollution.
  • Better paints, stains and finishes for the planet and for indoor air quality contain lower levels of Volatile Organic Compouds (VOCs).
  • VOCs are the chemicals that offgas to form smog and pollute the indoor air. Paint and similar products are labeled with the VOC content.
  • Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource, a grass, that matures in three to five years. Using bamboo flooring in place of wood helps sustain forests by not using old growth woods.
  • Cork is a rapidly renewable resource that comes from the inside or bark area of the tree. Trees do not need to be cut down or killed to harvest the cork.
  • Countertops made of recycled content that are durable are an environmentally friendly alternative to chemically intensive synthetic countertop materials.
